a 1 inch wide hem foot,for example if you wanna hem a cotton skirt,you can choose the half inch hem foot.

If you want to confirm whether your sewing machine is a low shank machine or not,find the thumb screw that holds the foot on the machine.
Measure the distance from the center of the screw to the floor plate. If it measures 1/2 inch you have a low shank machine.
